MILjazz 2026: The Finnish Defence Forces’ Energetic MILjazz Tour Takes Over Tampere Central Square!

This open and free outdoor event offers a perfect combination of top-tier music, interesting equipment, and a genuine festival atmosphere right in the heart of the city.

The day begins at the Central Square (Keskustori) at 2:00 PM, where the public can explore the equipment and operations of the Finnish Defence Forces. The Soldiers’ Home canteen will also be serving treats throughout the event. The musical program gets a grand start at 6:00 PM with a spectacular flyover.

Concert Schedule

• 18.00–21.30: MILjazz Concert

The evening’s music is provided by the country’s oldest professional military band, the Guards Band, the swinging Air Force Big Band, and the evening’s electric climax, the Conscript Band’s Showband.

In the Air Force Big Band’s summer tour repertoire (conducted by Ville Paakkunainen), we dive into the hot rhythms of the Caribbean. The theme is the music of legendary jazz pianist Michel Camilo. Expect energetic Latin American beats, spiced up by soloist Joonatan Rautio, one of Finland’s most respected jazz saxophonists.

Arrival and Location

• Venue: Tampere Central Square (Keskustori 1, 33200 Tampere)
• Arrival: The Central Square is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport. Bus and tram stops are located right at the core of the event, and the railway and bus stations are only about a 500-meter walk away.
• Parking: For those arriving by car, several parking garages and street-side spots are available in the Tampere city center area.
