MILjazz 2026: The Finnish Defence Forces’ Energetic Tour Arrives at Ilosaari!

This open and free outdoor event offers a perfect combination of top-tier music, interesting side activities, and a genuine festival atmosphere right in the heart of the city.

The event kicks off at 2:00 PM, giving the public the opportunity to explore the Finnish Defence Forces’ operations and equipment. Other authorities and national defence organizations will also be present to showcase their work. The Soldiers’ Home canteen will serve visitors throughout the event – remember to arrive early to enjoy the famous donuts!

Concert Schedule

• 18.00–18.50: The Dragoon Band
• 19.10–19.55: The Air Force Big Band with soloist Joonatan Rautio
• 20.15–21.30: The Finnish Defence Forces Conscript Band’s Showband

The musical portion of the evening will be opened by the Dragoon Band, bringing electric energy and well-known classics to the stage to set the perfect festival mood.

Next to the stage is the Air Force Big Band, conducted by Ville Paakkunainen. The summer tour repertoire dives into the hot rhythms of the Caribbean, focusing on the music of legendary jazz pianist Michel Camilo. Expect energetic Latin American beats, spiced up by soloist Joonatan Rautio, one of Finland’s most respected jazz saxophonists.

The electric climax of the evening will be delivered by the Finnish Defence Forces Conscript Band’s Showband, whose energetic performance and well-known hits will keep the crowd entertained until the night.
